A gripping spy thriller you cannot miss

A gripping spy thriller you cannot miss : My quick take on “Berlin” (Zee5)

If you're a fan of spy thrillers and somehow missed watching *Berlin* on Zee5, now's the time to add it to your list. Admittedly, I almost skipped it myself, thinking it was connected to the *Money Heist* spinoff of the same name. But trust me, this *Berlin* is a whole different experience – and one you don't want to overlook.

Set in 1990s Delhi during the Russian President's official visit, the story takes a sharp turn when an assassination plot is uncovered. The key suspect? A deaf and mute man. Enter RAW, India's intelligence agency, which brings in a professor from a deaf and mute school to assist with the interrogation. From here, the narrative keeps peeling back layers, revealing more complexities and ramping up the tension in this riveting cat-and-mouse drama.

One aspect that truly stood out to me was the metaphorical use of the title *Berlin*. We all know that East Berlin was a major hub for spies during WWII, where classified information often changed hands. The makers have used this reference to symbolize the covert and high-stakes world of espionage in the film. It’s a brilliant nod to history, adding a deeper layer of meaning to the plot and enhancing the intrigue for any spy-thriller enthusiast.

What makes *Berlin* stand out is not just its well-crafted story but the stellar performances that bring it to life. Ishwak Singh's portrayal of the deaf suspect is simply outstanding – no wonder he snagged a Best Actor award at the New York Festival. Rahul Bose, as the no-nonsense RAW officer, is a strong presence, while Aparshakti Khurana is a revelation in a serious, non-comedic role as the interrogator. The transformation is striking.

The film’s meticulous recreation of 90s Delhi is another reason to watch. From the vintage Premier Padminis to the Contessas, every detail immerses you in the era. The production design is nothing short of impressive.

Sure, the movie has a slow-burn pace, but that’s where its brilliance lies. The tension never lets up, and the director keeps you intrigued till the very end. If you're in the mood for a gripping, well-made espionage thriller, *Berlin* is a must-watch.
