Anna after Hanna: My quick take on Netflix’s movie “Anna”
After binge-watching Hanna, I discovered another spy thriller on Netflix. This is not a new release; the film was released theatrically in 2019, and it is now available on Netflix. It's a decent spy/espionage thriller set during the cold war era, when the CIA and KGB were at odds.
The plot revolves around a KGB recruit who is groomed as a fashion model and then sent to Paris as a supermodel to perform her 'termination tasks' for the KGB. Anna, played by Sasha Luss, is the titular character (in real life is a super model). She is ideal for the role of an undercover agent. Her action scenes are excellently staged. Veteran actor Helen Mirren has done a fabulous job of Anna’s handler in KGB.
Screen play has many twists and turns which makes it very intriguing setup.
French director Luc Besson has done a decent job in directing this thriller (I had thoroughly enjoyed his earlier movies “Leon” & “The messenger – Joan of Arc”). If you love spy thrillers then I am sure you will enjoy this Matryoshka dolls selling sales girl who goes on to become undercover KGB agent and Super Model in Paris. Movie is filled with lots of skin show, hence refrain from watching it along with kids.
