Another ‘nocturnal’ series.

Another ‘nocturnal’ series: My quick take on the web series “The Night Agent” (Netflix)

After watching the intriguing and interesting web series “The Night Manager” (original + its Hindi adaptation) on OTT, Netflix has launched its Night Agent. It's a thriller of the spy genre. The plot is not exactly novel, it's the same stuff of an intra-agency plot where some over-ambitious officers try to score some brownie points by scaring the country with a terrorist attack, unfortunately, their plan is foiled by a steely ‘Night agent’ who is a low -key FBI agent who getssucked into this vortex.

Looks like American writers have exhausted all the options of a strong antagonist, hence after the usual sitting ducks like Russians, North Koreans, or ex-East germans now they are identifying their own rogue agents or officials as the bad boys of the club. Hence the plot becomes very predictable. This is one of the main reasons why this series was not a binge-worthy affair for me.

I could sit thru the entire series because of its cast, I was watching most of them for the first time, hence there was a kind of freshness in their performance. I liked the performance of Gabriel Basso & Luiance Buchanne who are the kingpins of the plot. Eve Harlow and her partner Dale who are deadly assains in the plot have done a stupendous job. Secondly, the production quality is rich and it is comparable with any of the good spy/espionage thrillers. The action and chase sequences could have been more crispy. Thirdly 10 episodes are a tad bit long, this could have been trimmed to 7-8 episodes.

Overall, it's a ‘watchable’ series provided that you have ‘sparable’ time 😉.
