Big Boss: My quick take on Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the dead’

I had become Zack Snyder’s fan after watching his mega movie (rather a monster-length movie - Justice League Snyder's cut). He is one filmmaker who is not bound by the norms of the length of movies hence he is a perfect foil for any OTT platform where there is no compulsion of trimming your movie to 2.5 to 3 hrs length. He also has a unique knack for filming blood-slashing action scenes.

After the superhero's universe, it looks like Zack wants to start a zombie universe and this movie is a definite step towards it. A Zombie movie has never enthused me and I am not a big fan of this genre, yet I found this movie watchable because of some kind of mind-blowing action. The plot was similar to any Big Boss setup wherein a bunch of people is left in a room and made to do some task. Similarly here the big WWF hunk Dave Bautista handpicks a team to enter a Zombie infected Las Vegas city to remove 200 million dollars from a casino before the city is nuked by authorities.

By Zack Snyder standard it's a short movie, wherein the mission span is just one day. Does the team succeed? Does the army of the dead (zombies) get annihilated? Does it lead to any prequel or sequel? To get the answer to these questions you may have to watch the movie which is available on Netflix.

Apart from the nonstop action, and some great use of CGI ( there is a tiger zombie, which is damn impressive ) and the overall feel which is required for such an action-packed plot is impressive. I would be joking if make any comment on the story/plot and performances. After all such heavy action-packed stuff seldom has any relevance to the story, isn't it? And on the performance front, what can we say about these beef-bodied actors they all look good in their LMG wielding avatar. It was nice to see our own Huma Qureshi a small but important role in this Hollywood flick.

Watch it if you are a Zack Snyder fan, watch it if you like zombie stuff, watch it if love mindless action which can be termed gory at times. On a lighter note, Zack Snyder should give royalty to Imran khan and his on-road agitation wherein he had used huge 40’ feet containers to block the traffic, Zack has used the same technology 😜 to cordon off zombies
