Close encounter of ‘different’ kind : My quick take on latest movie “NOPE”

I grew up watching Fox Mulder and Dana Scully and their ‘tryst’ (or should I say obsession) with X-files and who were hell bent on proving ‘Truth is out there’. This fondness of mine towards such ETs, UFOs, Aliens was then pampered by likes of spielbergs and scotts. Now comes Jordon Peele who is touted as modern-day Steven Spielberg, he has come up with a movie of the same genre called NOPE.

Movie is aptly released on IMAX screens, since the movie is spectacularly shot with IMAX Camera, in my view it is best viewed on wide screens. Films picturisation, location and VFX are simply superlative. However the plot is ज़रा हटके as compared to UFO or Alien based movies what I have seen and enjoyed so far. We have seen depiction of ‘aliens’ as ugly, slimy, flesh eating beasts with ‘Arthopodaic body’ structures all these days. Here Peele has gone spiritual by making this ‘thing’ a formless shapeless entity 😀. Secondly all these days we have seen UFOs as a vehicle or carrier of extraterrestrial beings, here Peele has converted the UFO into a ‘being’ that hides behind clouds who occasionally flies down to earth and devours living beings.

The plot is set in a wilderness where a wrangler family breeds thoroughbreds and supplies these majestic studs to Hollywood studios. The setting of the plot is very stretched and labored hence one will wonder what's going on, especially the first 15-30 mins. However in later part story gathers pace and becomes more exciting.

One thing is commendable about this movie is that, one learns that one can make a movie withhout a love interest (no heroine) and without a well-defined antagonist. There are lots of cross reference of different movies in the plot plus some sub plot with a statement on human-animal bonding, these things wer're either redundant or अपुन के पल्ले नही पड़ा 😁, they end up over strectching the movie.

All i can say is that ‘Nope यार , नही जमा’. It’s different but certainly not the best in its genre.
