Costao se Mujhe bachao : My quick take on movie “Costao” (Zee5)

So I watched Costao on ZEE5 — and let’s just say, the platform continues its streak of taking promising stories and turning them into… well, PowerPoint presentations with background music.

Now, don’t get me wrong. The story has real meat — an honest customs officer, Costao Fernandes, locking horns with gold smugglers along the Goan coast? That’s a premise just begging for some edge-of-the-seat action. But sadly, what we get is more “sitting back with popcorn and waiting for something to happen” than actual edge-of-the-seat anything.

Nawazuddin steps in as Costao, and he does what he does best — some moments where he absolutely nails it, and some where it feels like even he’s wondering what went wrong with the script. But hey, it’s always a treat to watch him, even in patches.

And speaking of treats — Priya Bapat! Our Marathi mulgi shines as Nawaz’s wife. She brings a real warmth and strength to the screen, even if the film doesn’t give her enough to work with. She’s probably the emotional anchor in a movie that otherwise drifts like an unmoored fishing boat.

Now, about the villains — sigh. Imagine someone asked AI to generate a corrupt cop and a sleazy politician, and then printed them out in 2D. That’s pretty much what we get. Which is such a shame, because the lack of layered antagonists makes the whole story feel flat and predictable.

And then comes the ending. A neat, happy wrap-up that feels like a moral science lesson instead of the gritty, hard-hitting climax it deserved. It smooths out all the tension and leaves you feeling like you watched a documentary with Nawazuddin as the narrator.

In short? Watch it if you’re a Nawaz fan (or a Priya Bapat admirer — she’s genuinely lovely here). But if you’re hoping for a gripping thriller?

Costao se Mujhe bachao, please.
