Dark, Deceit and Never-Ending Drama!

Dark, Deceit, and Never-Ending Drama : My quick take on web series “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein S02” (Netflix)

Ah, “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein S02”, where darkness doesn’t just loom—it aggressively smacks you in the face. The show manages to out-kaali (dark) itself, plunging into an abyss where the characters compete in a scheming Olympics, leaving absolutely no room for redemption or empathy. If you thought rooting for a protagonist was an option, think again. Everyone here is too busy betraying, plotting, or delivering their best evil smirk.

The cat-and-mouse chase that forms the crux of the story eventually becomes… well, an exhausting game of hide-and-seek that just won’t end. But let’s give credit where it’s due: the maker has masterfully kept the thrills coming at a pace that ensures you’re too engrossed to question why you’re still watching this bleak circus.

Tahir Bhasin deserves a standing ovation for pulling off the “castor-oil-smug” expression throughout. His survival antics may stretch believability, but hey, you can’t help but root for the guy, even when he’s sinking deeper into the mess. Purva, the bahubali daughter, played by Anchal Singh, carries just the right amount of menace, while Shweta Tripathi, the love-lost old flame, seems stuck in a parallel universe of misery.

Then there’s Aurnoday Singh—OTT’s go-to hitman/kidnapper (apaharan specialist) who, at this point, might as well wear a T-shirt that says “Professional Baddie for Hire.” His bulk and brooding demeanor add the much-needed muscle to this already chaotic series. On the caricature end, Gurmeet Choudhary’s team of firangi mercenaries feels like they walked straight out of a bad spy movie, complete with gadgets straight from the clearance bin of a sci-fi store.

Now, let’s talk tone: this is a very bloody and dark series. Not for family night unless your family thrives on gore, dysfunctional relationships, and endless betrayal. The open-ended finale screams, “Brace yourself for Season 3, where the cats and mice will definitely need therapy.”

Final verdict: Entertaining, yes. Relentless, absolutely. But not everyone’s cup of kaali chai. Watch it if you enjoy chaotic thrillers where morality takes a backseat—way back.
