“Do Patti” Review: Double the Drama, Double the Confusion (Netflix)
Imagine a paraglider mid-air, hopelessly tangled, struggling to land. That’s basically Do Patti in a nutshell—caught between a thriller, a social satire, and what looks like Kajol auditioning for the Singham franchise. The opening scene tries to be intense, but it’s more “आसमान से टपका और खजूर से अटका” than edge-of-your-seat.
Enter Kriti Sanon, wielding her producer power like the kid who owned the cricket bat back in the day—the show belongs to her, twice over, in a Judwaa-style double role! As if one was not enough, we get two Sanons, complete with opposing personalities, forced sibling rivalry, and some out-of-the-blue dance numbers. It’s Bollywood déjà vu at its finest!
Set against the stunning Uttarakhand hills, the film would be a postcard if only the screenplay could keep up. We get a love triangle, which somehow spirals into a toxic romance, and—voila!—Kajol Devgn enters as a cop by day, lawyer by… another day? There’s even a “domestic violence awareness” insert that feels about as natural as an ad break.
What could have been a gripping thriller is ultimately more like Eno without the fizz. Except for the scenic backdrop, Do Patti leaves you longing for something with more substance. If you’re looking for thrills, might I suggest pre-Diwali Teen Patti instead—at least the rules are clear!
