Dubai Stole the Movie. Jack Ryan Just Ran Through It : My quick take on movie “Jack Ryan - Ghost war” (Amazon Prime)
Classic Jack Ryan chaos: rogue black-ops, global conspiracy, ticking clock, and somehow one CIA analyst doing everyone’s job.
But honestly? It works.
John Krasinski keeps Ryan grounded, Wendell Pierce brings gravitas, and Sienna Miller thankfully exists for more than “love interest energy.”
Despite the often repeated plot of an agent going rogue and the “good men” trying and succeeding in locating this broken arrow, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie for two reasons.
First: Dubai, my city.
And then Dubai steals the movie.
Al Seef. DIFC. Marina. Burj Khalifa. Sheikh Zayed Road chaos. Abras, dhows, car chases, skyline shots that feel less like a backdrop and more like a flex.
Watching CIA ops sprint through roads where you’ve personally suffered in traffic hits differently.
Bonus points: they actually filmed on location. Real streets. Real geography. Real action. No generic CGI soup.
They’ve captured this city of gold so beautifully that you’ll fall in love with it all over again.
Second: the pacing.
To add to this the usual high-voltage action, car chases, pyrotechnics, and on-location shooting instead of green screen, and it becomes a seriously engaging watch.
Also — just 100+ run time.
No bloated “prestige thriller.” No whispering in the rain for 3 hours. Just a tight, entertaining spy movie that gets in, blows things up, and leaves.
Dimag ko tension nahin dene ka.
Turns out some formulas still slap when done properly.
And clearly, some ghosts refuse to get exorcised.
