From ‘Nowhere’ to ‘escape to nowhere’

From ‘Nowhere’ to ‘escape to nowhere’ : My quick take on Vishal Bhardwaj’s “Khufiya” (Netflix)

Alright, buckle up, because we're diving into Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Khufiya' on Netflix - a spy thriller that's more like a spy movie without the thrill, like cola without fizz! 😜

I just finished watching 'Nowhere' on Netflix, and now I'm on a rollercoaster ride with 'Escape to Nowhere,' a movie adapted from a book by ex-RAW officer Amar Bhushan. Vishal Bhardwaj, the master 'adapter' behind Othello, Macbeth, and Hamlet, worked his magic to bring this story to life.

This is supposed to be a spy thriller, but it's more of a spy snoozer. The plot revolves around a RAW officer, played by the brilliant Tabu, who's on a mission to uncover a mole in her department after one of her agents meets a not-so-pleasant end. And let me tell you, this mission takes a good two hours plus - I was just thankful the World Cup cricket was on so I could toggle back and forth. Why? Well, because the music director inside Vishal Bharadwaj suddenly decides to overshadow the director and writer in him, throwing in some songs that slow down the plot faster than a snail on a marathon.

But hey, the cast is top-notch! Tabu rocks the 'khufiyagiri' on both personal and professional fronts. In Vishal Bhardwaj's world, it's the ladies who steal the show, with Azmeri Haque, Wamiqa Gabi, and the irresistible Navninder Behl taking center stage. Meanwhile, talented guys and like Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Ali Fazal end up making cameo appearances.(they enjoy 33% reservation’s 😜)

The camerawork is a sight to behold, the dialogues are witty, the performances are solid, and the music, well, it's good but slightly drags the plot down. Action shots? Realistic, but they feel like Spy 101. And honestly, they could've trimmed the length to keep 'Khuuuuufiya' from turning into 'khufiya' (a well-kept secret) 😜

On a lighter note, after 'Kaminey' and 'Kutte,' VB completes a hat-trick of 'K's with 'Khufiya.' 😜"
