Gloss, Glitter but lackluster conclusion: My quick take on Mani Ratnam’s “PS-2”

This concluding part of epic continues to impress with its majestic production value, awesome camera work, and impressive Hindi dubbing. It's a treat to the eyes to watch it on a wide IMAX screen. I loved the attention to detail given by the art director in the design of costumes, jewelry, head gears, body armor, weapons, and even the scars on the battle-hardened bodies of actors, take a bow.

No doubt Mani Ratnam is a visionary movie maker, here too excels in presenting complex human relations beautifully, but when it comes to action scenes he looks very amateurish. He should have consulted the likes of Rajamauli. Secondly, a good storyteller keeps the subplots very crisp, (here he could have avoided showing teenage Vikram and Ash’s love story, a background narration would have done the job). Thirdly, condensing a 5 volume story into a five-hour saga needed more creative writers. (I got confused to decipher the blood relation between Nandini and Aditya!! Was Nandini the daughter of Suraj Chola??? 🙄). Fourthly, a haphazard end could have been bettered (maybe the makers were tired with the length of the movie hence they somehow wanted to end the movie)

I agree with all those who say that Kalki’s work was worth converting into a multi-episode multi-season web series. Mani Ratnam surely missed a chance to create a befitting reply to Game of Thrones.

However there are many positives in the movie, foremost is the beautiful cast, they all look regal & majestic, beginning with ravishing Aishwarya, who is simply stunning. Best part is everyone has performed well, kalki has written these characters so well that each one deserves a spinoff episode of their own. Gulzar and AR have woven their magic beautifully. Bard AR is back in his elements, especially the BGM is a textbook example of how a good BGM lifts the tempo of a movie.

Overall movie is watchable (it's made for big-screen viewing) else you can wait for its OTT release (Amazon already has PS-1)
