Ho Ho Ho !!!

Ho Ho Ho !! : My quick take on Srivram Rghavan’s “Merry Christmas” (Theatrical release)

Sriram Raghavan's "Merry Christmas" – a cinematic delight or just a festive fumble? Let's unwrap this New year gift.

First things first, Raghavan, the FTII-trained wizard, sprinkles his storytelling magic once again, proving that he's the black comedy maestro. From Ek Hasina Thi to Andhadhun, his track record is more solid than my New Year's resolutions.

Now, onto "Merry Christmas." Despite a sluggish start that makes a snail look speedy, the movie picks up pace like a caffeinated reindeer on Christmas Eve. The plot, a romantic thriller, transforms into a quirky tale, and the oddball couple takes center stage. Watching 'chikni chameli' prove her acting chops opposite the ever-sublime Vijay Sethupathi is like witnessing Rudolph and the Abominable Snowman share a cup of hot cocoa – pleasantly surprising.

Raghavan's love for basing movies on novels is as consistent as my craving for holiday leftovers. This time, it's a French novel about a bird in a cage. Who's the real bird? The ex-convict returning to prison or the one attempting a daring escape? It's a metaphorical maze that keeps you guessing.

The cast, ah, the cast! Each actor is a shining star in this festive galaxy. Cinematography hits the right notes, teleporting us to '80s Mumbai – a time when neon lights were as essential as tinsel on a Christmas tree. The soundtrack is a nostalgic symphony, and the clever use of old hits is a masterstroke, like finding that perfect stocking stuffer.

In this small cinematic gift, every actor delivers a performance worthy of applause, no matter the length of their role. Production design deserves a standing ovation for recreating the Mumbai of yesteryear.

Nitpicking? Sorry, can't find anything – this film is as flawless as grandma's apple pie (a Christmas special) I wish I had unwrapped this sooner.

Don't miss it; it's a jingle all the way!
