Koi dekhe na : My quick take on Amazon primes new release “Koi Jaane Na”

Sometimes the ‘providence’ forces you to give an apt title for your project. Looks like the makers were confident that in theater “koi Jaane(wala) na(hi)” hence they were quick to release this idiotic whodunit thriller on the OTT platform. Sorry folks I had to watch it for handsome hunk Kunal Kapoor, a poor guy despite having loads of talents he is yet to repeat his Rang de Basanti performance.

The movie is about an Author who writes Motivational books and also ghostwrites cheap ‘jasoosi/murder mystery novels in Hindi which are often sold at bus/railway stations. Not that I have ever read such “garam hoori, katil Kaun kaun, or gumnaam raate” type stuff, but I am confident that the lot of the movie is akin to plots that are written in such sleazy Manohar kahaniyas.

Amir khan has done an “item” song or his close buddy Haji Amin who has directed this forgettable movie. For those who don’t know much about this Haji, he is the ‘goonga’ player of Amir Khan eleven in Lagaan. For me, this was the only highlight of the movie and maybe the beautiful location of Panchgani where the plot is set, else everything else is simply fast-forward-worthy.

Performance-wise, Kunal Kapoor tries his best to lift the movie, so does Ashwini Kalsekar in a bad ass cop avataar but it is the lusterless direction and lame writing and some ill-timed songs that make it a perfect “koi javo na” recipe.
