Kya pappu dasavi paas ho gaya?

Kya pappu dasavi paas ho gaya?: My quick take on Chota B’s new movie “Dasavi” (Netflix)

Long ago there was a stupid game show on TV “Kya aap Paachvi pass se Tez hai?”, which was hosted by SRK, needless to say, the game show had a forgettable record as no one remembers that show despite being anchored by King Khan who was probably riding on the high tide of his popularity then. Now comes a film “Dasavi”, which has no connection with SRK’s insipid show except that it will end up being a forgettable movie of Abhishek Bacchan.

I feel sorry for Chota B; he has inherited so many good qualities from Big B, such as his height, persona, gait, and voice (though not quite a baritone like Ab), but his current film choices are questionable. Just look at his recent releases, Bob Biswas, Big Bull, Ludo, and Manmarziya. As a cricket commentator says when a batsman is out on a duck, "Batsman is back to the pavilion without disturbing the scorers," similarly, all of CB's recent choices have not disturbed the box office coffers.

It's difficult to categorize this film; is it a social satire, a political satire, or a social comedy? All I can say is that it's become a laughingstock instead. I'm not sure what will happen to newbie Director Tushar Jalota after this movie, but I can guarantee that CB will start singing Anup Jalota's Bhajans soon if he continues to sign such movies. CB has done his best to act and spout some funny Haryanvi dialogue, but such moments are few and far between in this film. Nimrit Kaur and Yami Gautam were two of the film's standout performers.

Nimrit Kaur plays a Rabri like character in the movie who is airdropped on CMs chair after her husband (CB) is jailed. She has shown a beautiful transformation from a “Chara” feeding dame to an ambitious CM who ends up making her jailed husband “Be-chara”. While yummy Yami who looks damn beautiful in the uniform of a jailer is hell-bent on crushing the Jatt ego of CM in the jail and wants to reform him.

It's a film with a great concept but a terrible execution, so in exam parlance, all I can say is "Pappu dasvi pass nahi Hoga." It had the potential to be a laugh riot but instead became a laughing stock.
