Maaf karna bhailog : My quick take on Maddock’s “Bhool Chook Maaf” (Theatrical release)

Bhool chook maaf, doston… bhool chook maaf for every popcorn I munched while watching this “movie” that promised time travel but took me straight into a vortex of regret. I knew it was coming soon to OTT. I knew! And yet, I bought the ticket like a hopeful NRI buying land on the moon. Bhool chook maaf for being that naive.

Bhool chook maaf to Maddock Films for serving us this socio-sci-fish fry of a concept. It tried to be funny. It tried to be deep. In the end, it was just deeply trying.

Bhool chook maaf to Rajkummar Rao, who’s now officially the mayor of Small Town Misfit-ville. Beto, you were Newton, Stree-ed us out, and even Hit-ed the right notes. But now? It’s like he’s stuck in a B-town Groundhog Day – same awkward smile, same good-hearted loser, same “mujhe samajh nahi aa raha hai main kar kya raha hoon” expression. Same bro, same.

Bhool chook maaf to Seema Pahwa, Raghubir Yadav, and Sanjay Mishra, who valiantly tried to save this sinking boat with their usual brilliance. But even the Titanic had musicians playing till the end. Doesn’t mean we enjoyed watching it sink.

Bhool chook maaf to Wamiqa Gabbi, the only fresh oxygen cylinder in this gas chamber of monotony. She chirped, she charmed, and she did what Pednekar and Pannu would’ve done – only with slightly more glee and slightly less template acting. Full marks for effort, zero marks for script.

And then… the plot. A time loop. Again. But this time, instead of edge-of-the-seat, it’s “God-please-make-it-stop” loop. Loop Lapeta? More like Loop Lo Beta, Khatam Hi Nahi Hota. What could’ve been a comic goldmine became a WhatsApp forward that refuses to end.

Bhool chook maaf to the cinematographer – Varanasi never looked this good. But even Benaras’ ghats can’t rescue a plot this ghatiya.

And finally, bhool chook maaf to myself – for watching this in a theatre. And reviewing it. And worse – considering recommending it. But I won’t. Because tum mujhe kabhi maaf nahi karoge (bhool chook se bhi)

Finally, OTT pe bhi aaye toh remote sambhaal ke rakhna. Bhool chook maaf, par sach toh bolna padega.
