Nolan, the destroyer: My quick take on Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”.
Nolan has destroyed a myth that an effective biopic has to be a linear or chronological show. He has retained his trade mark style of non-linear format with sharp cuts wherein the story jumps in various time periods, and has come out with a masterpiece biopic of a scientist who has given the world, the power to destroy itself many times.
The beauty of this biopic is that it talks and shows less about the deadly Atom Bomb, but dwells deep into the troubled mind of Oppenheimer where the fission and fusion is taking place galore. Though the scientist Robert J Oppenheimer never got coveted ‘Nobel’ prize for his work, but Cillian Murphy who plays this titular role has definitely reserved this year's ‘Oscars’ for his outstanding performance.
Apart from a tight screen play by Nolan, it is the fantastic ensemble of cast hand-picked by him turns out to be a masterstroke. To complement this his experimentation with 65mm IMAX format and the BgM takes the quality of movie few notches up. It is hard to believe the Nolan does not use special effects, if yes, then one will simply wonder how he has recreated this visually blinding effect of a atomic explosion.
Talking of Oscar-worthy performance in the movie, the Iron Man Robert Downy Jr is also a strong contender in race where he plays Lewis Strauss, someone who hand-picks Oppenheimer for Manhattan project. Movie is packed with cameos by many big Hollywood names. I also loved the technique of toggling between BnW and color frames indicating the psyche of characters wherein Lewis Staruss’s frames are always in BW as he is kind of binary man believing in yes or no.
3hr long length seems to be a bit long for a Hollywood movie, plus the story is propelled forward by the dialogs and conversations taking place, hence if you blink then you may miss the context (because of longish length one cannot help by take a डुलकी 😜)
Secondly, like any of Nolan movie second viewing तो बनतां है, नहीं पल्ले नहीं पड़ेगा.😜
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie which in my view is going to sweep academy awards this year. If u r a Nolan fan u r not going to miss it, even otherwise u can watch it as this is more simpler Nolan movie to grasp 😜.
