OMG-Simply Adorable

OMG-Simply Adorable: My quick Take on New Tamil Movie “Oh My Dog” (Amazon)

Someone has very rightly put it “Dogs are not our whole life, they make our lives whole”, I firmly believe in this adage as I have always had these 4-legged woolen balls as my pets which had outgrown my extended family. (Miss you Mishoo, Miss you Misha, Miss you Teepu). If you are a dog lover then you should not miss this adorable movie, if not, you will become one after watching this enchanting movie.

A good children's film from Indian filmmakers is rare (it is said that in the guise of making a children's film, they usually end up making a 'childish' film 😊). The last good Indian children's film I recall seeing was "Chota Chetan," and Anjali could be the next best. While Hollywood regularly produces films in this genre (thanks to Disney and other film producers), this Tamil film has made us all proud by providing us with a clean, feel-good, beautiful film that can be compared to the Dalmatians or Home Alone series.

The plot is set in the beautiful location of Ooty, where a husky puppy escapes its captors (belonging to a local dog breeder) who are all set to kill the puppy since he has an eyesight problem. This puppy is then found by our hero Arjun of the movie who brings it home and the drama begins. The local dog breeder (he is the Mr. Cruella of the plot) wants his breed to remain unblemished and hence wants to get rid of this beautiful puppy. How Arjun and his classmates save this adorable puppy from the evil eye of the breeder is the simple plotline of the movie.

The movie is made watchable by its setting in the pristine hills of Ooty, which is very well captured by the cinematographer; second, the hand-picked cast, whether it is Arjun's intelligent brat friends or Mr. Cruella's buffoon pair of sidekicks, everyone has done well. But it is the majestic Siberian Husky – Simba – who takes the cake. There are several scenes in the film that will make you jump out of your seat and clap like a child. However, for the typical 'desi' melodrama in the climax, the films can be compared to Disney's Dalmatians. After a while, we got a genuine "family" movie on OTT that can be watched by the entire family together because there are no scenes where you will have to leave the room for a while 😊.

Personally, it was a nostalgic experience for me because it reminded me of my Mishoo, and as they say, the best therapist is one with fur and four legs, and I miss my therapist.

Watch it – don't miss out on this delightful film.
