Psycho comical murder mystery thriller children film for adults: My quick take on āThe Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window" (Netflix)
ššššš- I did not find a better caption to describe this Netflix series ( after all I had to come up with something which can match its neverending title š). The makers have challenged Bard who had stated āBrevity is the soul of witā, as there is nothing āconciseā and ābriefā in the plot nor in its Title ( which looks more like a part of the screenplay than a title)
As they say āignorance is bliss, I was ignorant of what was happening around me and sat through 8 episodes. For me, it was a decent murder mystery with a tinge of psychological drama which reminded me of the Hitchcockian thriller āRear windowā. But then I read somewhere that this is a parody of blockbuster psychological thrillers ( yes, thrillers (plural), it makes fun of not one but as many as 11 movies). Hence itās obvious that if you have watched movies like āThe Woman in the windowā or āthe girl on the trainā or āthe othersā or āthe hand that rocked the cradleā or ārear windowā and a few more, you will find the screenplay and dialogues and plot very funny else you will be like me (gazelle in front of headlamp - wondering what is happening).
The plot is simple, a paranoid main lead who is fighting her demons after her break up when her only child is āeatenā by Hannibalās lectar like character (yuck !!!), she gets a handsome neighbor who is also single (with a daughter) and it sparks off romantic side in this wine addict played very well by Kristen bell. Plot takes a twist when she watches a murder taking place in the neighbors house. Police feel itās a classic case of hallucinations due to heavy spells of alcohol. She however is cock sure that the murder has taken place and sets out to become Sherlock and tries to unlock the mystery.
The climax is āhatkeā rather āunconventionalā and unpalatable, not sure it is a parody of which movie. You can watch it, but you will enjoy it only if you have watched some of the originals.
However, remember the movie is strictly not for kids
