Rocking Rocky Rocks (RRR) again

Rocking Rocky Rocks (RRR) again: My quick take on soon to be a Monster hit “KGF -Chapter2”

Indian box office coffers will be grateful to films like Pushpa, RRR, and now KGF 2 for more than making up for the pandemic's draught. Pushpa - the fire - started it, Rajamouli fueled it, and now Yash has turned it into an inferno, erasing all previous box office records.

Everything about the film is extra-large and expansive, whether it's the extra-wide shots that beautifully capture the expansive landscape, the over-the-top action shots and car chases, or the eardrum busting 'trademark basroorian' BGM, or the frame brimming with crowd shots, everything is in the superlative form to the point of becoming a garish or loud presentation.

One of the prerequisites for a blockbuster is a takkar ka villain, and Sanju baba's Rangnarian looks are menacing at their best. His "Adheera" will now join the ranks of Mogambos, Gabbars, Shakaals, and Kancha Cheenas in the hall of fame of Hindi film villains. But for good songs, the film contains everything that a Hindi blockbuster requires. The Hindi dubbing is fantastic, with lines like "I don't like violence, but violence likes me" and "Mere dosti layak koi nahi, meri dushmani zhel sake Aisi koi talwar nahi" guaranteed to make the theaters a little louder.

On the performance front, Yash's Rocky retains his cockiness and swagger from Chapter 1, while his love interest, played by Srinidhi Shetty, is merely a prop in the film, and most of the male characters sport long beards, making it difficult to identify the actors behind these bushes. Raveena Tandon's Indira Avatar matches Rocky's swagger, and she is impressive in her brief but important role.

Such a high-octane action film very seldom has a strong screenplay; in general, it is a run-of-the-mill type of story, and this is no exception. At least Chapter 1 had a good setup and plot, which is missing in this chapter, but the director compensated by making good use of flashbacks using Chapter 1 footage. This film will be remembered for its brilliant technical team (cinematographer, editor, production designer, action coordinators, and director). I only wish the writing department had been reinforced as well.

The film's mysterious ending provides enough "hints" about Chapter 3, which, in my opinion, should be on the agenda. This allows the writers to go global; perhaps from Kolar, they can think of Kibali (Congo) or Grasberg (Indonesia) gold mines; Rocky is now going to rock the world. The KGF franchise has been established.

If you enjoy full-on masala entertainment (by becoming Napoleon ‘brain-apart’ 😉), you should watch it. I might watch it again (in Kannada this time) because original language ka maza Kuch aur hi Hoga, houdalla?
