RRR – Rivalry, Reminiscence, and Redemption! : My quick take on Netflix’s documentary “The Greatest Rivalary : India vs Pakistan”

The Netflix docuseries The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan is more than just a chronicle of cricketing duels—it is a deep dive into the emotions, history, and drama that make this sporting contest one of the most intense in the world. Through rare archival footage, expert insights, and heartfelt player testimonies, the series captures the sheer magnitude of what an India-Pakistan match means—not just to the cricketers but to millions of fans across the globe.

What makes this documentary special is its ability to balance raw sporting passion with the deeper socio-political backdrop. It doesn’t just focus on statistics and match highlights but delves into the psychological warfare, the pressure of expectations, and the unforgettable moments that have defined generations. From Javed Miandad’s last-ball six to Kohli’s masterclass in Melbourne, every chapter is a testament to why this rivalry is unlike any other.

Take a bow, Netflix, for this must-watch documentary—or should I call it a docu-drama? This has everything a bingewatchable thriller web series should have—tears, sweat, toil, and triumphs. A nostalgic trip for fans like me who could relate to Laxmipati Balaji’s heroics and how the Sultan of Multan could derail the Pindi Express in his own backyard!

From Shoaib Akhtar’s fireballs to The Wall and Master Blaster of Indian cricket to the rise of Sultan of Multan Viru Bhai, the documentary beautifully chronicles the best of India-Pakistan cricket. However, I would have loved to see more of the B&W era—when Zaheer Abbas literally screwed up Bedi’s spinning career or when Sunny turned the minefield of a Bangalore track into his personal stage against the likes of Abdul Qadir.

In fact, as the documentary rightly states, an Indo-Pak match is literally no match for the proverbial Ashes rivalry. My only complaint? The series covered just a fraction of the thrilling moments. Are they reserving them for Season 2? Yeh Dil Maange More, Yaar!

Three episodes—pure binge material, provided you are a true cricket bhakt!

India… India!
