So Sorry!!

So “Sorry”: My Quick take on Karthick Aryan’s “Feddy” (Disney/Hot star)

I was truly "sorry" on two counts: first, for prolonging my plans to watch this gripping and captivating thriller for several days; and second, for sitting through the movie with a preconceived image about the star Karthick Aryan since I had some significant reservations about his "acting" abilities. Firstly, it's a well-written, well-directed psychological thriller, and secondly, Karthick Aryan's performance was simply Masha-Allah! so let me admit that I was delightfully wronged. I can state with confidence that this will be Karthick's "Red Rose" moment because in the 1980s, Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) starred in a dark psychological thriller (Red Rose) that ran directly against to his then-popular image as a chocolate hero, so did Karthick in Freddy.

The protagonist of this movie is a "chronic" bachelor named Dr. Freddy Ginwala, a dentist by profession (played excellently by Karthick), who is battling his own "bloody" past problems that have turned him into a nerdy, insecure guy. Hats off to director Shashanka Ghose who does a great job of establishing this introverted and socially awkward man. Let me also recognize Karthick's efforts because he almost transformed into this character; his "body language" may be used as a textbook example. One of his patients sparks his romantic interest, but she is already married. Alaya Furniturewala, who plays this part and is the daughter of Pooja Bedi (it goes without saying that Kabir Bedi's genes are rocking), has also done a wonderful job. Plot has very few characters amongst whom the entire storyline is woven.

The screenplay is cleverly filled with turns and twists that keep you involved the entire time. The gloomy setting of South Mumbai, which is dark and foreboding, heightens the mystery of the story; fortunately, there are no songs and dance sequences, which may have compromised the screenplay's tightness. The director succeeds in keeping you on the edge of your seat despite the suspense being obvious (it's like someone penning a book called "murdering for dummies").

The movie is mostly about "one-sided love," whether Dr. Freddy will find the love of his life or whether the relationship will turn sour like a root canal gone awry.

Watch it or you will feel sorry later on
