Sometimes, someone, somewhere : My quick take on “Nowhere” (Netflix)
A gripping survival saga, which will keep you afloat (pun intended). This Spanish drama is set in some fictional period, where the subjects are fleeing the country from the tyranny of a tyrant. Pregnant Mia (played by awesome Anna Castillio) and her ‘Miya’ are attempting to join the bandwagon of all those who want to flee the country, are dumped into an empty 40’ container only to get separated en route to the port. To add to the drama, the container is caught by authorities who then enact General Dyer’s murderous battalion and clean off all the container by giving Moksha to all. However our Mia survives this carnage and her container is loaded on to a vessel and is set to sail.
Plot is filled with many absurd and tall tale-ish moments by virtue of which the Mia’s container and few other containers get dropped in the high sea due to rough weather. Will Pregnant Mia, whose container has turned ‘turtle’ will survive this ordeal as her container is ‘cast away’ to ‘nowhere’ is the main premise, rather the only premise.
I remember an interview of Jackie Dada a few decades ago when he was talking about novel topics picked up by Hollywood makers, “देखो, चूहे की लेकर भी ३ घंटे की पिट्चर बना डालते ना भिड़ू” (he was referring to Ratatouille). Similarly here too, the makers have taken one actor and one empty container and keep you invested for nearly 2 hours, take a Bow director Albert Pinto.
Whether Mia is able to weather all storms and survive the ordeal? To know more, you may have to sit through the movie. No doubt makers in my view were able to keep the container as well as the audience’s interest afloat. One may ignore on few “creative liberties” taken by the writer which gives an unrealistic and absurd feel to this survival Saga.
In my view, It's a good watch. You will love this story of grit, courage, resilience and hope, that sometimes, someone, somewhere will extend his arm to help you.
