Summit breached: My quick take on “Uunchai”
Way back in 1965 Rajashri produced the movie “Dosti” which fetched its maiden national award, a decade later BigB carried his co-star Dharmendra on his shoulder while singing “Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge’, now in 2022 both, Rajashri and Big B have come together with a sweet movie which can be termed as “Ode to Dosti”.
Hats off to director Sooraj Barjyata for attaining this new ऊँचाई by giving us this different kind of movie deviating from his usual but successful शादीवाला musical formula. A simple plot where three buddies (Big B, Anupam Kher & Boman) set out on a यात्रा to fulfill the dying wish of their buddy (Danny Denzompa) to visit the Everest Base Camp to immerse his ashes. This simple journey from Delhi to Kathmandu gets meta-morphed into a personal, emotional, and spiritual journey.
I loved the way the Director unfolded the story layer by layer in the process that made us meander through the back stories of each character. Abhishek Dixit’s screenplay and dialogs are simply wow. He has given ample scope for each of the characters to blossom and impresses the audience. Hence all actors ranging from Big B, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny, Neena Gupta, and Sarika have their moments and impressive scenes.
The outdoor locations of the road trip and the Alta vista of the mighty Himalayas are beautifully captured by the cinematographer. The drone shots in the Himalayan ranges are simply breathtaking. Where Every frame can be frozen into a picture postcard. Irshad Kamil's lyrics and Amit Trivedi's music spice up the story.
The movie is simply a heartwarming affair, which will make you smile as well as make you cry. The characters are so nicely written that one can easily identify with such people in our own life. Mind you this movie is going to walk away with many awards in various categories. The only glitch about the movie is its length (it is nearly 3 hours long), else the movie is fresh and full of heart.
If you are sick of watching mindless action flicks packed with VFX, then watch this movie जो आपको कभी हसायेगा कभी रुलाएगा. Personally, for me, it reminded me of my close लंगोटियाs (kandya, gajya, aapya, kondya and प्रधानजी)
