The fate of peeping Tom

The fate of peeping tom: My quick take on Amazon primes "the Voyeurs"

What begins as a sleazy, sensual, sexy erotica with a lot of flesh display develops into a good thriller in the end. It is the story of a freshly married couple who move into their new apartment in a high-rise building, then accidentally 'peep' into the apartment of a 'bare' pair who 'bares' everything in front of this newly moved-in couple. The unintentional peep show becomes a habit, then an obsession, culminating in a very unpleasant climax.

The plot's twists and turns keep the movie fascinating; I'm not sure if it was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window." Alfred Hitchcock would have been proud of deft direction and concise writing.

If we put the 'skin show' aside for a moment, doesn't the overarching narrative of keeping the window open and inviting unwelcome gazes into your personal life remind you of the numerous social media sites we use? Don't we let many people into our personal life? "If we open our windows to the outside world, flies are bound to invade our environment," someone wisely observed. This metaphor of an "open window" was one of my favorites.

Sydney Sweeny, who plays the “peeping tom in chief”, is one of the movie's many good-looking "performers" (pun intended) who also act well. She's fantastic in this part. The climax is a little "Tall tale” ish," but it includes a nice "twist" that keeps the movie interesting.

Because of the film's flashy and colorful skin show, it is not recommended for "family viewing." If you do decide to watch it, do so alone or with your spouse, and don't forget to use your headphones or your neighbors will “peep” into your drawing-room.
