Yes to your honor

Yes to your honor: My quick take on Sony liv’s Web series “Your honor”

Have you ever started to watch a series that proudly declares that it is a remake of a foreign language series and it is so well made that you desperately feel like watching the original one? I felt so when I had watched Ronit Roy’s Hostage last time, just after watching this desi version for 30 mins I switched over to the original Israeli series Hostage, not to mention it was a simply awesome experience. While watching the Jimmy Shergill starer “Your Honor”, I desperately wanted to watch the original series (co-incidentally this one is Israeli series too) but in vain until I finished a tad longish but absorbing 12 episode web series which too claimed that it is based on Israeli series of the same name, I could not lay my hands on the original.

I am surprised that why such a beautifully made serial did not get the popularity it deserved, it's high time the marketing team of Sony-liv wakes up. Of late Sony liv had come up with some very good web series/movies on its OTT platform, like Avrodh, Undekhi, JL50, and a masterpiece like “Ram Singh Charlie”.

Now coming back to “Your Honor”, it has some top-notch performers like Jimmy Shergill, Varun Badola, Mita Vashist, Suhasini Mulay, and Parul Gulati and it is directed by a celebrated director “E Nivas” (Remember movie Shool”). The best thing about the series is its story, about a Judge (played by Jimmy Shergill) going all out to save his son from a hit-n-run case which he has committed on the first day of his driving license and the story becomes complicated as the victim of the accident is a notorious criminal who was sentenced to jail by the same judge. It’s a gripping crime drama where the judge puts his judicial convictions and responsibilities aside to protect his only son.

As they say ‘to say one lie, one has to keep lying’, similarly the plot becomes murkier and more complicated as the different character gets involved. Mita Vashist is simply fantastic in her role as an upright cop while Varun Badola as the well-wisher friend of the judge is too good. Each and every character of the series is very well written and everyone has given their best performances respectively.

The character of an 18-year-old teen literally gets on to your nerves, (this is so well played by Pulkit Makol) you will start disgusting this guy on the screen. Hats off to director E Nivas for bringing forth so well-etched characters on the screen. The best performance is of course by the main protagonist Judge played by Jimmy ( though this handsome star looks a bit young to play a dad to an 18 yr teen).

Another good thing about the series is its setting in a semi-urban place (Ludhiana ??), it really brings some freshness.

The Series is a must-watch, for those who love gripping crime dramas. I loved it so much that I somehow got hold of the original series, it is called KOVDO but it is in Hebrew and I am going to watch it.
