कब, क्यूँ और कहाँ? : My quick take on Netflix’s “Suspect-x” (Jaane Jaan)

First mystery I could crack was this crime thriller is released as ‘jaane jaan’ for desi audience, for me in Dubai it is ‘Suspect X’ more in line with the title of novel ‘The devotion of Suspect X’.

This flick, based on Keigo Higashino’s novel, is like a mystery recipe that’s been cooked up in various kitchens. Japan, Korea, China, and even our own desi flavor with Jigo Joseph’s “Drysham.” Rumor has it, they all took a page from the same mystery cookbook.

But having seen Drysham in various language and now watching this Suspect X, one starts suspecting who has influenced whom 😉. There are many moments in this Kareena Kapoor murder mystery which will remind you of Drysham. However unlike drysham this suspect leaves you confused rather convinced as to the कब? murdered body was moved, क्यूँ? someone helps to coverup , कहाँ? Where is the body dumped?

Plot revolved around a de-glam kareena Kapoor and her teenage daughter in a beautiful town of Kalimpong, their life suddenly takes a turn when a cop (Saurabh sachdeva) visits rather finds them after 15 years. Let me mention that this is my fourth movie of Saurabh Sachdeva this week and O’boy this fellow is simply awesome, here too in his brief cameo he will get to yr nerves. He comes, he irritates and he gets bumped off. Like Drysham, we know who has committed murder, but the screenplay keeps you invested on how they are going hide this murder.

Jaideep Ahlawat plays the neighbor of this ‘hot padosan’ and becomes her accomplice while Vijay Verma plays a cop who comes in search of fugitive cop Saurabh Sachdeva only to find he is murdered and then he starts investigating the case. On performance front this is indeed a mughleazam moment for Ahlawat, he is too good in the role of genius, complex mathematics teacher. Bebo is in her 2.0 avatar, it is nice to see her ‘act’ and mind you she has done a good job. Vijay Varma too does not disappoint. However the fourth actor in the plot it the beautiful location of Kalimpong. There is some kind of erriness in the air in kalimpong which is beautifully captured by award-winning cinematographer.

Sure, the climax might leave you a tad confused, but overall, this one’s worth a watch. You’ll enjoy it more if you haven’t played the “Drysham” guessing game before. Even if you have, it’s like a classic mystery you can’t resist.
