दो घंटे की सजा - कब्जा: my quick take on Upendra’s “Kabzaa”

KGF series has had what can be called as ‘first mover advantage’ , it had beccome a rage and had assumed a cult status because of its stylized action. Unfortunately, in movie industry the trend sets in quickly and some remakes, some copies and some inspired by products flood the market. Kabza is one such product, which piggy rides on success of KGF .

No, it not a copy nor it's a rip-off of KGF (thank God!!) but the premise, plot, setting, tone and texture of the movie matches KGF. Looks like writer is highly influenced by Manmohan Desai, hence you have a अबला माँ with two boys , of course she is a बेवा 😉, just because the movie is set in pre independence era , she spins a चरखा else she would have been using a सिलाई मशीन 🤪. Her husband was a freedom fighter , hence देशभक्ति तो विरासत में मिली है .

Post-independence, it is shown that few of the provinces resort to unlawful activities and becoming bedfellows with underworld crime syndicates. Meanwhile the movie clock turns to 70’s where our hero (Upendra) has turned into a trainee air force pilot (with Long hair 🙄) He returns to his fictional village and the goons guns and gals encounter starts, our hero gets sucked into a quicksand of crime and becomes a Bhai (how novel 😜)

Every two minutes a character is introduced and at the third minute he gets eliminated. if there is no fight and action scene then it ought to be an item song, if not some romance scene with shreya sarin then again some action. And it goes on for nearly two hours. However one thing is common throughout the movie I.e ear piercing, ear drum shattering BGM by Ravi Basrur ( I think his sound mixing table does not have a volume control button). I had loved his BGM in KGF but here it has become unbearable and unhearable.

After two hours you realise that there is Kabza2 on the anvil (OMG बच्चे का सर कितना पकायेगा यार). I saw the kannada version and found the dialogues simply atrocious (not sure how it will fare in Hindi dubbed version). Performances are simply over the top, eg. there is one henchman in villains gang, the only job of this टकलू is to make faces similar to emotions 😖😩😡🤬🫤🙄.

Upendra has tried hard to ape ‘Rocky’ Bhai but in vain. His dialogue delivery lacks the rocky punch. some casting is simply horrible - how can you cAST Murali Sharma as a royal? Instead of royalty he suits more in municipality 😉. Kiccha and Shivanna gets less footage than the item dancer (maybe they play important role in Kabza2, but is anyone awaiting it?). A blank frame technique used in KGF’s car chase scene is rampantly used here in action scenes, hence instead of enhancing the intrigue it sets in fatigue in the audience.

Yes, the only advantage of watching this क़ब्ज़ा , is one will get rid of पेट का क़ब्ज़ , especially If you sit near Dolby speakers, as Doctor Ravi Basroors loud noise (i mean music) will get rid of yr क़ब्ज़ 😜
