A Gentleman thief

A Gentleman thief: My quick take ‘Lupin’ (Netflix)

I am not sure if I had written my take on Lupin after watching season 1, today after completing the fifth and final episode of season 2 I felt like penning my thoughts on this wonderful character of the gentleman thief. This French web series ( now available on Netflix and is very nicely dubbed in English) will remind you of our desi Dhoom series and adventures of all its con men (hritik, John Abraham, and Amir khan).

It's a well-made mystery thriller, shot in a typical slow-paced classical Agatha Christie-type mystery thriller. The plot hovers around professional thief Assane Diop, a son of a Senegalese immigrant in Paris, he models all his tricks on the adventures of Master thief Arsen Lupin a character found in French literature. Tall and bulkier Omar Sy has played this character very well.

A typical cat n mouse game wherein police initially have no clue about this ‘चोरों का राजा’ and Assane Diop is hell-bent on taking his बदला from Mr. Pelligrini who had accused Diop’s father of theft and then killed him in jail. All ten episodes of S1 and S2 is nothing but adventures of Diop who uses all the tricks of physical disguise, thievery skills and his digital hacking skills to get even with Pelligrini and seek his बाप का बदला.

It’s a clean series that can be watched with kids. If you love the adventures of Sherlock Holmes then you will love Lupin. The slow pace and too many flashbacks make one lose interest in the series, hence it took 4-5 days for me to finish non-binge worthy series.

The way S2 ends, looks like S3 is soon to appear on OTT platform.
