Anesthesia free tooth extraction: My Quick take on “Extraction”

Looks like Bollywood bug has bitten Hollywood makers, in Bollywood we have seen many choreographers eventually let off their dancing shoes and hold a megaphone to direct a movie, likes of Farha khans, Remo D’Souzas & Ahmed Khans do this and we have seen their masala products made especially for galleries.

This time Hollywood’s famous stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave who has given some outlandish, out of the world stunts in several of Marvel’s cinematic universe had decided to swap the roles and don the megaphone to direct the latest movie “Extraction” which was recently streamed on Netflix. It was but natural that the final product would be action, action, and more action.

A chicken head plot of a team of mercenaries rescuing a hostage held by a Bangladeshi drug lord for a hefty ransom is interlaced with sleek action choreography set in Dhaka. To spice up the plot the hostage happens to be a son of an Indian Drug lord (Pankaj Tripathi is wasted in this role, as his screen time can be literally counted in seconds and milliseconds). So, the hostage drama turns out to be like a thrilling India-Bangladesh T20 match, rather a high scoring one. The supari of rescuing the boy is taken by Thor (Chris Hemsworth) who is at ease without his hammer but with an M16 assault rifle.

It was nice to see our desi star Randeep Hooda bagging a meaty role opposite Thor, he literally stands tall in this role. (Looks like this will surely open Hollywood gates for Hooda). The production value of the movie is superb and the Dhaka setting with sepia-tinged color treatment to all frames is damn impressive.

The movie is jam-packed with action, rather it’s a kind of portfolio presented by stunt coordinator turned director Sam Hargrave who probably wanted to showcase his prowess in filming stunts. If you love only mindless action and stunts then don’t miss this extraction, else you will feel as if you are having your tooth extracted without anesthesia.
