Bailed out!!!

Bailed out : My quick take on Hansal Mehta’s web series “Scoop” (Netflix)

It was a while that Netflix had come up with decent Indian content web series, Hansal Mehta’s “Scoop” has bailed them out as it simply an awesome thriller cum courtroom drama that will force you to binge-watch. The series hovers around mafia-murder & media’s unholy nexus. It exposes how the underbelly of horrendous alliance of politicians and police Machinary and how the shortcomings of judicial system is taken advantage of. The plot is based on the biographical account of a female crime reporter Jigna Vora and her book “Behind bars in Byculla - My days in prison”.

Karishma Tanna plays this titular role, and she just nailed it. She is simply awesome in depicting this ultra-ambitious crime reporter who can go to any extent to get her story on Page 1 of her tabloid. Her arc of performance as a feisty reporter and caring single mother and doting daughter to a under trial in byculla jail is praiseworthy. Hats off to Hansal Mehta for the jabardast ensemble of actors in various role, apart from Karishma the second stand-out performance was given by Harman Baweja, I had forgotten this handsome hunk for a while, it is nice to see this fellow can act well 😀. Zeeshan Ayub too gets a decent role and he does not fail to impress us.

Apart from the performers, I feel the real hero of the series was its writer (who adapted it into an impressive screenplay) , here I was pleasantly surprised to see the name of “Mrunmayee Lagoo”, remember she is the daughter of Late Reema Lagoo. Take a bow Mrunamayee. After success of “Scam” hansal has followed it by “Scoop”, his love for hand-picking hard-hitting real stories is comendable. Looks like he has mastered the art of making binge-watchable series. This screenplay is so tight that it will not allow you to leave the series in between.

One more thing which I loved about the series is that makers did not shy away in showing real names like Dawood, chota Rajan, Iqbal Mirchi. Also exposes the blatant rot of politician and underworld nexus which hints at answering few uncomfortable questions on how attempt to bump off India’s most wanted was compromised.

I only wish that Hansal Mehta somehow lays hands on “Vohra commission report” and comes up with another hard hitting series exposing scums who are bedfellows of underworld.

Just watch it!!!
