Coffee with ‘Karaam’ 🤣: My quick take on Amazon’s web series “Sweet Karaam Coffee”
Unlike the glossy and gossipy talk show कॉफ़ी with करण, this coffee is endearing ,entertaining series packed with some delectable moments. For me it was a refurbished plot of “Zindagi naa milegi dubara” where instead of Farhan, Hritik and Abhay who embark on a 3 week road trip in Spain, here three ladies from various generations of same family set out on the journey of self-discovery. It's a story of “पाटी, बेटी and बहू” sneaking out of their metaphoric “caged” abode and set out on a travel in an old Fiat car.
Laxmi (अपून के ज़माने की Julie) plays the grandmother, Madhoo (अपून के जमाने की Roja) plays a doting mother while Shanty plays a daughter and aspiring cricketer. Since its a web series , writer has got enough time to work in deatil on each of these characters and three ladies have given simply awesome performances. Veteran Laxmi steals the show whenever she is in the frame. While they embark on this ride of self-discovery, the writer also beautifully brings forth the household relationship challenges, unlearning of so-called norms, and opening up for new friendships.
Like any travelogue and nomadic nature of the script the makers literally takes the audience for a ride, albeit a beautiful one and take you to some awesome places in India (Really one will feel proud of India, as there is so much to explore within our country). Needless to say the camerawork is simply top-notch. Second best thing about the series is it's music (songs) , in my view after “बंदिश” series, music of this series has moved me. Though it's a Tamil web series, the Hindi dubbing is damn impressive and the songs are simply divine.
It's an eight-episode long series, which in my view is a bit stretched, but क्या करेगा ? चेन्नई से धर्मशाला जो ड्राइव करते जाना था 😜!!. But for this stretched portion which makes the Coffee vee bit cold. Else the overall feel-good message and some outstanding performances with beautiful music and complimented by picturesque मेरा ब्यूटीफुल भारत 😍 footage can make you binge watch it, with a गरमा गरम फ़िल्टर कापी besides you.
