Dil-se: My quick take on the Columbian series “The Marked Heart” (Netflix)
This 14-episode Columbian web series, originally titled "Palpito" (in Spanish), is now available on Netflix in its English dubbed avatar as "the marked Heart." The series isn't exactly a binge-worthy product, but it has enough masala to keep you interested, forcing you to leach on to it so that you can finish it in 2-3 sittings. This thriller web series may remind you of the 1978 film "coma," written by Robert Cook. This series, like Coma, addresses the issue of organ harvesting/trafficking, in which able-bodied people are killed to harvest their healthy organs.
The plot revolves around the main character "camellia," a professional photographer and heart patient. The only way to save her failing heart is to undergo a heart transplant. Her husband manages to obtain one for her. Camelia discovers later that her donor was identified and murdered to scavenge her healthy heart. In her quest for the donor and her family, she uncovers the organized syndicate behind this global racket of organ traffickers. During the process, she befriends and falls in love with the donor's husband and his family. Will she be able to tell the donor's family that she received a heart from a lady who was killed for her sake? this is the short premise of the series.
The original Spanish language series has been nicely dubbed in English, and the director and writer have managed to retain the thrilling moments that will keep the audience engaged. However, I believe the series could have been trimmed and edited down to 8-10 episodes (instead of 14-episode long series). If you had enjoyed "Coma," then you'll enjoy this medical thriller series. This Palpito has many moments that can induce "palpitation" in the audience's hearts, so watch it.
It's also worth noting that this series is currently the "most-watched series" on Netflix and season 2 is most likely to be released soon.
Just a word of caution, there is a lot of skin show in the series, hence choose a mature company to watch the series with you.
