Entertaining Roberrt: My quick take on Darshan’s latest Kannada hit “Roberrt”
After watching chudails and begums, if you are made to watch a full to wasool, mar dhad se bharpur, action-filled, seeti podu songs, and a typical masala film, what will be your reaction? Boss, I will grab this with both hands, best part of masala films is that they don’t bother your grey cells and as the great Balan had said movies run on three pillars ‘Entertainment, Entertainment, and Entertainment”. I saw, the challenging star Darshan’s “Roberrt” and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s an out-and-out masala movie, rather should I call it Mysore masala.
I have become a fan of this hunk Darshan after watching him play Duryodhana in Kurukshetra. For those who don’t follow Kannada movies, Darshan is somewhat like our Sunny Paaji or Sallu Bahi, who carries his beefed-up body with elan. Let me not talk about the plot or storyline (as if there is any great storyline), remember it’s a Darshan movie, period. It is like asking or trying to find a storyline in our Sallu Bhaijaan movies.
I simply loved the way action sequences have been choreographed in slow motion. I also loved the vividly color-coordinated dance numbers, these are so lavishly shot and beautifully choreographed that it is best viewed on 70mm screen only. The first half of the movie is well-paced and well-scripted while post-interval it is an overstretched back story of the main lead. Maybe this portion was simply forced to showcase Darshan like the Yash’s KGF avatar with muscular bikes, leather jackets, and an unkempt beard. This has resulted in overstretching the movie to nearly 3 hours.
Notwithstanding the overstretched length of the masala movie, I have a gut feeling that it would be soon remade in Hindi, and who else but our Bahijaan may play the lead because in many frames the way Darshan has moved around he will remind you Sallu Bhai's gait.
Roberrt is worth a watch, at least it does not tax your gray cells.
