Folly no 1/ फड़तुस no 1: My quick take on David Dhawan’s swan song ‘Coolie no1’

Just stay away from this mindless attempt to create a comedy. It’s a clear mockery of the IQ level of people who will dare to watch it. The movie is so horribly made that you will send the earlier version of Govinda’s Coolie to the Oscars. Yes, instead of Varun Dhawan (VD) you will admire Chichi who had made all of us laugh in 1995.

To quote great Oscar Wilde ‘Imitation is the sincere form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness’, this mediocre remake of Govinda’s remake which in turn was a Tamil hit movie remake has indeed made earlier versions Great. This is ought to be the swan song of David Dhawan who once had an awesome reputation of giving 17 consecutive hits with Govinda, he has lost his Midas touch, rather he has not graduated to make films for the millennial + generation.

There is nothing in the movie worth talking about, even the talented cast with the likes of Bharti Acherekar, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav & my favorite Javed Jaffery could not light up the stupid screenplay. Even the yesteryears hits of हुस्न है सुहाना & तुझे मिर्ची लगे तो क्या करे? Has lost its ‘spiciness’ here. Production value is slightly better in the new avatar as they have set up Goa in Bangkok. The dialogues are simply cringy, will toss you into a frenzy ( yes the writer has coined mindless rhythms in a lame attempt to create a funny wordplay instead has made it into verbal diarrhea)

I feel sorry for Amazon Prime for purchasing this lousy product they have to revamp their team selecting Hindi or Indian content for their OTT platform. Varun Dhawan in ‘aping’ Govinda and Mithun has reduced himself to an ape, he should vary of his dad’s पुत्रप्रेम which can prove disastrous in his career. Remember that he is the same guy who has given us brilliant movies like Badlapur and October.

Stay away, as this Coolie will not ease you with your luggage instead burden you further and remove whatever optimism you are having regarding walking into New year with positive hope.
