Haunting echoes of death : My quick take on “The Railway Men” (Netflix)

This gripping web series delves into the tragic Bhopal Gas tragedy, weaving a tale of heartbreaking loss and the bravery of unsung heroes across its four compelling episodes. YRF's entry into the OTT world with 'Railway Men' marks a powerful debut, shedding light on the haunting echoes of this catastrophic event.

Set against the chilling backdrop of December 1984, when the deadly MIC gas engulfed thousands, this binge-worthy series, now on Netflix, is a commendable maiden effort by Director Shiv Rawail and writer Ayush Gupta. The stellar cast, including KK Menon, Divendu, R Madhavan, and the evocative performance by Babil Khan, reminiscent of his father, adds depth to the narrative. Notably, cameos by Mandira Bedi, Juhi Chawla, and Raghuvir Yadav enhance the series' impact.

The series stands out for its factual portrayal, steering clear of political blame games, yet waiting on authorities for the complete truth. The production quality astounds, vividly recreating the Union Carbide factory and its surrounding areas. Innovative camera work, blending actual footage with recreated scenes, evokes spine-chilling moments, leaving goosebumps.

Despite knowing the tragic outcome, the director's storytelling prowess captivates, holding viewers at the edge of their seats throughout the four-hour series. It's a compelling narrative where survival near the epicenter was limited to cockroaches and select “Gora” carbide executives, thanks to bureaucratic intervention. A must-watch, showcasing the resilience and dark truths of that fateful night.

Watch it.
