I wonder 😳 : My quick take on ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
I ‘wish’ I had not watched this WW84 (pun intended for those who have already watched it). I maybe disappointing who have loved this lackluster super hero(ine) stuff, as I have seen few reviews going Gaga over Gal Gadots character.
We have seen in lots of B grade Hindi movies about ‘ईछाधारी’ नागिन with नागमणी, plot is no different here the Nagmani is replaced by a wish fulfilling crystal. A near bankrupt businessman with lofty ambitions lay his hands on this stone and then stuns people around by granting their wishes. Obviously hell breaks loose and amidst this chaos our super amma wielding her lasso of truth come to the rescue of mankind.
I would say this movie which is based on a character from comics is ‘comical’ indeed. Hence if you are comics lover and in age bracket of 10 and below , then you will simply enjoy this else you will ‘wonder’ as to why you watched this ‘wonder woman’. Kind of action which is associated with such genre of movies is definitely missing here, especially in the climax ( it looked more like a cat fight then a fight between a super hero and a super villain). Tiring Length of the movie is yet again a reason for you to yawn throughout. In my view the sequence of young Diana competing with older Amazonians in a race could have been trimmed or removed as there was no value addition to the plot. No doubt the race sequence will remind you of Harry Potters Quidditch World Cup is well made but totally unnecessary.
Gal Gadot is the saving grace of the movie, she is simply ravishing and very athletic hence makes you feel that she was made for this role. She has immortalized this role of an immortal demigoddess, Amazon princess and warrior. Pedro pascal as Maxwell Lord plays the suave ‘सूटेड बूटेड’ antagonist ( I loved the characters name , as he intends to become ‘Lord’ misusing his super powers), if fact it is nice to see this prime time ‘TV personality’ playing a villain (sorry no pun intended 😜, world wants to know)
Finally, this movie made me think as to ‘ does these super heros make any sense, especially during this pandemic where were these bloaks? , why did not Great Batman allow people to eat bats and create unwanted disease , why mighty Superman did not spin our globe and just fast forwarded the timeline, why the Spider-Man did not spin the web around us to shield us from virus? Such thoughts make me wonder!!!
