‘Jack’ of a movie!!

‘Jack’ of a movie: My quick take on movie ‘kathal’ (Netflix)

Best thing about this movie was its trailer, which gave me a feeling that it would be a laugh riot. Because the premise of the movie was indeed very funny, wherein the entire police force of the town is employed to investigate the theft of two jack fruits from the gardens of a local politician. Movie also claimed to be based on a kind of ‘truish’ story. ( I faintly remember a news of cow being stolen from an UP politician's house and entire state machinery went after it). Even the cast of the movie was very impressive with likes of Sania Malhotra, Rajpal Yadav, Raghubir Yadav & Vijay Raz. But alas it was a ‘jack’ of an experience for me as the movie turned out to be an absolute ‘jack’.

Looks like the writers got confused as the movie got progressed, as to how to treat the plot? Make it a slapstick comedy? Or make it into a social satire, exposing the class/caste divide prevailing in our society. They went with the later reasoning, and squandered the chance of coming up with a comedy caper.

Like the jack fruit itself, which is totally different on outside and inside, the movie too is totally different on what it promises and what it delivered. Luckily Since the movie is on OTT I could pause it many times to watch IPL match and नोटबंदी news and its reactions (which I found it more entertaining than the movie 😎).

If you want to watch a social satire get some gyan on the class divide, or if you want to see how local politicians make use of government machinery for selfish chores, how the current youtube media works, then you can sit through this missing jackfruit mystery. Else watch some Tom and Jerry cartoon to enjoy the real slapstick in action instead of some insipid and tepid climax which has ‘vegetable’ war with potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins, onions thrown at each other ( maybe it's a metaphor the director had used to throw rotten tomatoes at the audience 😜)

watch at your own risk of getting Jacked and becoming a Jack-ass.
