“Kadak moment” missed : My quick take on Pankaj Tripathi’s “kadak singh (zee5)

After watching Ranvijay singh वल्द Balbir Singh in a movie made by maker of Kabir Singh, watched yet another “singh” movie on Zee5, the Kadak Singh. For me there were many reasons to watch this movie on zee5, foremost is enigmatic actor Pankaj Tripathi, second is the writer and Director Jodi Anirudha Roy Choudhari and Ritesh Shah, last time this Jodi was together to celebrate their success of Pink. This time too the duo was able to create the magic which is required for any suspense thriller.

The plot is set in my favorite city of Kolkatta where an upright officer investigative officer who is investigating a chit fund ghotala is found battling life and death in a failed suicidal attempt and is admitted to a hospital. This official has now memory issues, his partial memory is completely wiped out so much so that he does not even recognize his family members. Pankaj Tripathi plays this “Main kaun hun?” character in his unique style. If you too are getting a feeling that Pankaj Tripathi’s acting has now kind of saturated and he appears repeating his acts, then you will be pleasantly surprised to see this kadak Singh, take bow Kalin Bhai!!

The movie carries a theatrical vibe, almost like experiencing a live 3-act drama. While this style enriches the storytelling, it might have contributed to a slower pace, leaving the thrill aspect somewhat diluted—think of it as a soda without its fizzy kick.😀

However, where the screenplay might lack momentum, the cast compensates with stellar performances. Pankaj Tripathi's prowess is expected, but the female actors—Sanjana Sanghi, Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan, and Malyali actor Parvati—reportedly shine, adding weight to their respective roles.

Ultimately, the film seems like a slow burner, but the performances and the intrigue keep the audience invested. Being on an OTT platform, it offers the flexibility to savor it at one's own pace, even if it takes a couple of sittings to soak in the entire story.

The one slight miss seems to be a potentially 'kodak moment' that could have added more charm or impact to the overall experience. Nonetheless, it's recommended for those who appreciate a decent thriller with standout performances.
