Mamma Mimi: My quick take on Netflix’s ‘ Mimi’
A Beautiful and must-watch movie, after a long time, you will get to watch a clean comedy with your entire family.
An official remake of a National award-winning movie ‘मला आई ह्वायच’, deals with the topic of surrogacy. The best part of the movie is its witty dialogues and when you have guys like Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Pahwa then it becomes a laugh riot on screen. The surprise package of the movie is Kriti Sanon, this is indeed her ‘Pakeezah’ moment. This heropanti girl has come a long way and has given her best performance till date. This role was very challenging one as she had to play a sensuous dancer and aspiring Bollywood actress then becoming a pregnant surrogate mother and finally a unwed mother of cute boy. She has done grand justice to all shades of her character. Had the movie been released in theaters she would have been the candidate for best actress this year.
Effortless Pankaj Tripathi is a treat to watch, his body language, his impeccable timing, his endearing characterization of loveable Bhanu the cab driver is simply awesome. So is the rest of actors like Manoj Pahwa, supriya Pathak, and Sai Tamhankar, everybody did an awesome job.
The casting director has to be commended for his fantastic ensemble of the cast. Even the choice of actors who played the American couple and the parent of surrogate kid is fantastic. The movie is set in Rajasthan (shot mainly in picturesque Mandawa and Jaipur one should accept the fact that Rajasthan is a delight for tourists.
The plotline is like a comedy-drama (फ़ार्स) where the confusion snowballs in creating situations comedy. The overstretched climax filled with emotions could have been trimmed a bit. Wizard AR Rahman has composed the music and as a typical AR signature one will not instantly love the music but as you listen to it, again and again, you will fall in love with it. It was surprising to see a leading Marathi actress like Sai Tamhankar doing such a ‘secondary’ role. No doubt she has done a fabulous role.
Just watch it, this premature delivery is worth a watch.
