Much needed ‘astra’ for bollywood

Much needed astra for bollywood: My quick take on “Brahmastra”

When all your movies are falling like pack of cards at box office, bollywood desperately wanted all the पंचमहभूता to huddle up and come for it's rescue. वायु, अग्नि, वृषभ, are put into action ably supported by some mind-boggling VFX light up the first episod of ‘astraverse’ (desi answer to western Metaverse). Movie is good concoction of x-men, avengers , harry potter, star wars and many more fantasy tales. Sprinkled with fictional mythological tadka makes it a watchable product albeit in patches.

Plot revolves around an orphan Shiva (Ranbir) who is a DJ and like Mr. India runs an orphanage. As a DJ he is less on the ‘turntables’ and more on the dance floor. Director Ayan Mukherjee has taken loads of time to establish the character of Shiva. क्या करेगा, धर्मा production जो है, तो mindless नाच गाना तो होगा. If director would have controlled and trimmed the romance of Shiv and Isha (Alia) then the product would have become more crisper.

Mouni’nagin’ Roy has landed up in a mogamboish role, she does not disappoint. SRK and Nagarjuna’ cameos as वानरअस्त्र and वृषभअस्त्र is interesting. Xavier school of X-men is made into ashram here and the Big B is the Patrick stewart and plays the pivotal Guruji..

On the positives, VFX tops the order, action choreography is good, though song and dances are beautifully choreographed but they let off steam and tempo of the movie. On the negatives, lame dialogues , patchy editing, and unwanted songs will make you take aspirin while watching astra.

My verdict, it's not as bad as Lal Chaddha and Liger and not as good as RRR, hence त्वमेय ब्रहांस्मी , hence decide on yr own 😁
