My ‘sum’ शेरा (remarks) is TOH 2.0: My quick take on YRF’s magnum bogus ‘Shamshera’’

YRF’s TOH (thugs of Hindostan) which was shot mainly on the waters was a disaster in titanic proportion, now Shamshera follows the suit, this is shot on land and will end up with a similar fate. Maybe YRf will have to think of a Top Gun-like movie now so that a hatrick of sorts can be achieved (disaster on water, flop on the land, and crash in air 😜)

Though the writer has picked up lots of things from the block buster hits like Bahubali, RRR and KGFs (should I say, writer got inspired by the south Indian hits), but somehow could not brew the concoction into massy hit formula instead made it a messy mishit. Hence the movie in patches might appeal to you, but such moments are very few in the movie.

On the positives, the bewitching landscapes of beautiful Laddakh is very well captured, songs (though not exactly hummable) are shot beautifully and has stamp of YRF, third is the earnest performances of Ranbir. Maybe I can add performance of Sanju baba, it seems he is enjoying playing the antagonist roles. Rest everything is less than ordinary. This is a great exhibition of making a movie with fantastic production value but with a soul-less story-line.

Writing is sloppy and so it the direction, like a headless chicken the plot and screenplay wandered aimlessly. Action scenes trace an arc of awesome to utterly stupid shots. The choice of Vani Kapoor was wrong, someone else could have added that much-needed oomph (like chickni chameli or suraiyya).

Overall you get a feel of reading a cheap comic book with a robin hoodish character played by Ranbir. In my view, just wait for a while as the makers will soon release it on OTT since Box office has not responded positively to this bahu-balli 😜 (balli is the name of Shamshera junior)
