Namma Dabang: My quick take on “Gurudev Hoysala”
After a while, I watched a masala cop drama in Kannada. Plot hovers around a dabang cop who rides 1 horsepower animal instead of 20 HP bullet, someone’s who believes in गोली more than बोली, someone who loves taking media for a live coverage of his raid, someone who ‘gases’ the goons with teargas and then wearing a gas mask ‘bashes’ them. 😜. Actor Dhananjaya is in this titular role, he fits the bill perfectly.
Not so novel story, set in north Karnataka starts with investigation of a missing cop who in turn was working on sand mafia case. Had the writer stayed with this single plot the movie would have been more effective. But then he drops in a love story in between with an inter-cast angle and the movie gets stretched thin.
It's a typical masala potboiler, hence I better not comment on story nor performances, however, I can't resist mentioning Naveen Sagar’s character Bali, he was a revelation. HIs beefed body is impressive, plus he has Nani looks, he is guy to watch for in future.
Overall it's a masala pot boiler, you can watch it if you want more entertainment than Royal Challengers 😜.
