Pinkie Panther

Pinkie Panther : My quick take on movie “Mrs Undercover” (Zee5)

Talented Radhika Apte shines in her titular role as an answer to Amazon Primes ‘The Famly Man’ by essaying a ‘Family Woman’. She plays an undercover agent who is in a long hibernation, she is woken up from her slumber because her ‘agency’needs her to nab a psycho-killer. This comedy spy thriller will remind you of Steve Martin’s goofy inspector in Pink Panther.

It was a refreshing change to sit through a movie on OTT which had zero profanity. Set and beautifully shot in city of joy (I simply love this city) where the antagonist calls himself “Common Man” and kills women who are self-reliant/ self-made / independent. (no doubt आज कल आम आदमी (कॉमन मैन) are finding themselves on wrong side of law 😉).

One may find many things wanting, eg the action scenes are pathetic, the comedy scenes are very basic, the killer is revealed in the first scene itself, storyline digresses from a thriller to a social one wherein a housewife is being glorified, however in spite of all these shortcomings one can sit through because of some good performancees. Since it is set up in Kolkatta director has done well in casting most of the characters from Bengal, there is some endearing quality about these actors. However the cake was taken by our मराठी मुलगी Radhika Apte , but for her action scenes her inbuilt ‘goofiness’ outshines in her performance.

The movie ends with a hint that Agent Durga will continue to entertain us, I only hope and pray that makers invest more on writers and work with better action directors only then this ‘Family woman’ can give run for money to ‘Family Man’ 😉

Worth a watch.
