Punch a minute

Punch a minute: My quick take on the new Kannada movie ‘Yuvaratna’

We have heard and seen ‘item dances’ in many movies, which unexpectedly appear on-screen breaking the seriousness of the plot. Have you seen ‘item fights’? , these are well-choreographed ढीशूम ढीशूम scenes which have all the seeti podu moments, and like an item dance, they too appear unexpectedly. Yuvaratna is packed with such paisa wasool items.

Puneet Rajkumar lives up to his title of ‘Power star’ with a power-packed performance where he is either ‘punching’ a goon or delivering dialog with taali bajao ‘punch’ (hence punch a minute movie). He plays a crusader cleaning up the corporatization of the education system which is killing the government-aided educational institutions. It's a movie that bhaijaan’s fans will relish. It's an out-and-out masala movie, fit for attracting covid scared audiences to theaters. But has it delivered what it promises? The very fact that it has found its way to a streaming platform (available on amazon prime) suggests that, unlike movie producers, the audience is not is still not ready to take a risk.

IPL season is on, hence your mind is tuned to ताबड़तोड़ cricket, hence you will enjoy this Ratna if you like mindless masala movies packed with punches (literally ☺️)
