Raw, gruesome, different, well made thriller: My quick take on R Balki’s “Chup-Revenge of the Artist”
Take a bow R Balki for adding one more feather in yr cap and keeping yr record intact for making ‘different’ kind of movie (हटके) once again. Appreciate his body of work ranging from cheeni kum, shamitabh, Paa, padman, and now Chup. Even his contribution for Mission Mangal and English Vinglish cannot be ignored.
This AdMan has tried totally different genre of movie this time, it's a whodunit kind of serial murder mystery. Plot become more appealing as we hear about ‘पेटी पत्रकारिता’ and ‘paid reviews’ very often nowadays. There is a serial killer in the movie who bumps off ‘biased critics’ who deliberately post incorrect reviews to either bomb a good movie or boost LSC type of movies. Dhai-kilo ka haath wala Sunny plays the cop in this cat-n- mouse thriller.
Different plot is the real hero of the movie, secondly a handpicked cast comprising Dulqur Salmaan, Sunny Deol, shreya dhanawantri and Pooja Bhat. All these have lit up frames whenever they appeared in it, special mention of Family man girl Shreya Dhanawantari she is awesome, even Pooja Bhat is tolerable in her avatar as psychoanalyst.
I had said this earlier, that now we have a salmaan who can act, yes this Malayalam star is damn good in this complex role. I wish this movie should become like what Darr did to SRk’s career in Bollywood, chup has potential to do same to DS.
Mounting the legendary ‘Kagaz ke phool’ movie of legend Guru Dutt as a backdrop of the movie, using the melodious tunes of SDda, was a master stroke of R Balki. The climax could have been reejigged a bit else even I would have tempted to give 4+ rating without any fear 😁
