SHE is back

She is back: My quick take on Netflix’s “She- season 2”

Director Imtiaz Ali wears a hat of a writer in this series, he has deviated from his usual rom-com formula to a चोर पोलिस वाला gangster plot with a drug angle. As seen in season 1, cops successfully plant a mole in drug lord ‘Nayak’s’ gang through one of his lieutenants ( played very well by Vijay Varma). Aditi Pohankar is the undercover cop who poses as a prostitute to break into the cartel. she was a perfect cast for this unusual role of a rookie cop who is fighting her demons in her personal life.

In season 2, Aditi comes across more confident and more badass cop (undercover). I was impressed with her performance in S01 and she continues her good form in S02. Imtiaz Ali is known for working on woman-centric projects, where the female protagonist is generally on the quest of discovering her true potential, here too he has not deviated from this core. However similar to his movie ‘Highway’, his story aimlessly meanders through subplots without adding any value to the plot.

Apart from Aditi, I was impressed by the performance of Kannada actor Kishor Kumar who grabbed the meaty role of Nayak, the drug lord. The plot deals with the darker underbelly of a crime syndicate, hence you will have to walk through brothels, pimps, foul language, drugs, and lots of skin show therefore it's not a series that can be watched with family. Secondly, the sleazy and sloppy setup does not make it a binge-watch-worthy series.

In my view this series can be skipped, unless you like such ‘edgy’ plots 😉
