The kargil boy : My quick take on Amit Sadh’s web series ‘Jeet ki zid’
It’s a good coincidence that producer of this web series happens to be father of the actress who had become’The Kargil girl’. But unlike Kargil girl this web series is far more appealing. This is available on ZEE5 platform and the entire series can be watched in one sitting as the length of each episode is hardly 30-40 mins.
Sometimes you come across movies or web series which are not so brilliantly made, technically there are many shortcomings but the pathos in the plot is so overpowering that you just fall in love with the product. This is a real life story of a brave heart Major Deepender Singh Sengar whose life story is too filmi to be believed, just imagine someone who has seen his elder sibling get killed by terrorist then goes on to becoming the most decorated commando of our forces, get fatally injured twice and survives, gets confined to wheel chair, then gets into Prestigious B-school IIMA , does well in corporate life, fights all odds and stands back on his feet... wow , take a bow Major.
Director has used a novel concept of asking the real life Major to summarize the episode (la Ashok kumar of Humlog style) , but then the stark difference between the athletically skinny persona of real hero don’t gel with the beefed up ‘hero’ Amit Sadh. War and combat scenes are very elementary (should have taken a leaf out of URI it could have added bit of drama), too much of time is spent on commando training sessions. In my view the Kargil, commando training, combats should have been the backstories instead the real story should have been Major’s battle against the disability.
On performance front Amit Sadh was impressive, his cocky trainer Shushant singh stole the show whenever he is around, Amrita Puri who plays the wife of Major is an revelation she has done a wonderful job.
Amidst all these shortcomings the real winner is the story which is too good to be true, hence I would highly recommend this zid.
