The ‘Mommy’ returns : My quick take on J Lo’s “The Mother” (Netflix)

This mothers day, I have watched three ‘woman-centric’ movies/web series, where the main protagonist is a lady. Sonakshi impressed me is दहाड़, while Sanya Malhotra entertained me with her performance in कटहल. Incidentally in both these movies/web series the main lead wore police uniforms and were no-nonsense characters. Now comes the third movie where they have packaged enigmatic singer J Lo into a military-trained deadly assassin who returns from her hibernation to protect her daughter. (as they say, and even a most docile mother can become रणचंडी when it comes to protect her kids)

Plot is nothing new, J Lo plays a war-hardened sniper who goes rogue against her mentors after discovering their evil ways. In the process, she has to abandon her daughter after her birth for her safety and goes into hibernation in picturesque Alaska. 12 साल बाद, she comes to know that her 12-year-old is to be kidnapped, then out comes this ‘Mother’ and she single-handedly fights the bad guys. माँ की ममता और क्षमताओं के सामने दुश्मन सारे ढेर हो जाते है. This is the wafer-thin plot, which is made watchable by some well-choreographed action scenes, impressive chase shots and bewitching landscapes of alaska makes you sit through this generic thriller.

You can watch it for J Lo as she weilds a LMG instead of a mic here, and does this kick-ass mom’s role with Elan. In conclusion, this was a hat trick for me where I witnessed three strong woman-centric movies.

You too can enjoy this hat trick.
