Unfinished song

My quick take of Sushant Singh’s swan song “Dil Bechara”

Movie is filled with “Dil” and will leave audience with “Bechara” feeling in the end.

This tear jerker movie will constantly remind you of that endearing smile of SSR which will be missed, what a strange co-incidence that a Bihari Boy who had dreamt of making it big in Bollywood had to shoot his last film in Bihar & Neighborhood (Jamshedpur).

Movie is set with female protagonist’s (played by Sanjana Sanghi) point of view, she is a Cancer patient battling thyroid cancer which has now spread to her lungs hence she has to carry a oxygen cylinder enabling her to breathe normally. Though the story and plot were very heroine centric, it was sheer brilliance of SSR he ends up hogging the entire limelight, it was indeed a brilliant last act of this koi poche, chichore and MS Dhoni actor.

Back in Nov 2013, at the same Wankhede where MSD had hit Sri Lankans out of park to grab the world cup, Great Tendulkar’s swan song of 200 test match was cut short by Darren Sami who took a sharp catch to dismiss little master on 74. Even though Sachin could not reach 100 this match will always be remembered by every Indian and cricket lover. Similarly, Dil Bechara though not as brilliant movie as kai poche, or Chichore or MSD or Sonchiriya but it will be always be remembered as the best movie of SSR.

Movie is an official remake of a Hollywood movie “The fault in our stars”, if you have not watched the Hollywood movie nor you have read the John Green’s novel on which this movie is based, then please do not attempt to do so. Else you will definitely start looking at “faults” in this remake (incidentally there are many). Very fact that it’s a SSR’s last movie, it will make you overlook many weaknesses in the screenplay and direction (even in audio quality as found few dialogs very hard to hear). However, there are many positives about this the movie, like the performances of the core cast is exemplary. SSR is brilliant and so is Sanjana Sanghi. Sahil Vaid who plays a side kick of SSR is also brilliant and so are the Bengali parents of Sanjana. I loved to vibrant landscape of industrial town of Jamshedpur where majority portion of movie is shot. The dialogues writer too has done a stupendous job.

On lighter note, after “Dosti” where a Blind and a crippled had bond together, here the makers have made us aware of three kinds of cancers – Thyroid cancer, Osteosarcoma & Glaucoma. Jokes apart, movie is a must watch not because the current IMDB rating is 10 out 10 watch it as an anamnesis of rich but short career of Sushant Singh Rajput
