Unseen, Unforeseen & Uncomfortable truth

Unseen ,unforeseen & uncomfortable truth : My quick take on Hritik’s “Vikram Vedha”

Husband wife director and writer duo of Pushkar-Gayatri are definitely the next big thing to happen to Indian cinema. I had become their fan after watching the ‘Suzal’ as well as the original Tamil VV. I thoroughly enjoyed this hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster. It's racy, it's pacy, it's massy paisa vasool entertainment.

Hats off to writers for beautifully adapting the वेताल पचीसी in contemporary set up, where Inspector Vikram (Saif ALI) becomes Raja Vikramaditya and a criminal Vedha (Hritik) becomes the Vetala. One should commend Hritik for picking roles which has been immortalized other actors in the original versions, be it Big B’s Vijay Dinanath Chauhaan of Agnipath or Vijay Sethupathi’s Vedha in Tamil original, and making his own in the reMakes.

Like in Suzhal, here too director duo keeps on bringing forth a new twist/s like Matryoshka dolls as the movie progresses. Everytime the encounter specialist Inspector nabs the most wanted goonda, the goonda (vetaal) escapes while narating an intriguing story. Everytime these stories unfold an unseen ,unforeseen & uncomfortable truth. This cat n mouse game keeps the audience thoroughly engaged.

Plot is set in beautiful and majestic city of nawabs (Luckhnow), it's impressive skyline is beautifully captured by the lensman. Dialogs written by Manoj Muntashir are cheesy, the BGM is simply awesome. Action scenes are better than Tamil original (maybe to sync to Hritik’s persona) , however too many slow-mo action scenes could hv been avoided. When you hv a supple dancing star like Hritick in the movie then no maker would resist the temptation of making this Greek God dance, an item number ‘Alcoholia’ though appears force fit in the plot, it is sure shot going to be the next blockbuster and will top the charts.

Saif Ali khan continues to play an upright cop (similar to his sacred game role) with aplomb. Females like Radhika apte and yogita bihani find in blink-n-miss kind of roles. Other supporting casts are impressive.

More than the actors and stars in the movie, the story is the real hero which makes it a must-watch masala movie. Even though I had watched the original Tamil VV and a poorly dubbed Hindi version of same Tamil VV, I found this Hritick’s VV more appealing. Movie ends by sowing more doubts in audience’s mind, hinting at a likely sequence.

Dont miss it.
